Educational Toy Child

Toys Child

When you put the words "toys child" together you’d think that you can’t go wrong, right? All children love toys don’t they? Well, yes but not all toys are equal just as not all children are the same. Anyone who has bought a toy for a child knows that selecting the right toy isn’t always an easy task. Not all toys work well for all children and getting it right can be a frustrating experience. And some times the guidance on the box is non-existent or way off beam. Just because a toy works for 4-8 year olds doesn’t necessarily mean that your six year old will enjoy it.

Is there anything more frustrating than spending money and time choosing a toy only to have it rejected almost instantly by your child. As well as prompting a swift lesson for your child about the importance of gratitude you may also feel angry that your child has rejected your offering. I’m not sure why but this feeling is often exacerbated when you buy an educational toy that you want your child play with and learn from. So what can you do?

With any toy, and childrens learning toys in particular, learning how they work can be difficult for your child in the beginning, no matter how well suited the toy maybe for them. Help your child by taking the time to show and explain to them how it works and you will see a dramatic difference in their enthusiasm for playing with the learning toy that you’ve bought them.

And what if you get it wrong? If you purchase something for your child and it quickly becomes apparent that they are not interested in the toy or it is too advanced for them, just accept it and put the toy away. There is no point in getting angry with them for not trying hard enough or yourself for choosing something inappropriate – that is a waste of time and energy and really doesn’t help anyone. It may well turn out to be a great learning toy for your child, but just not yet. Instead put it somewhere out of sight and bring it out again at a later time. Don’t leave it out, hoping they will get the hang of it or somehow grow into it. It is far better for their self esteem to have out 5 toys that they enjoy and are comfortable playing with than 10 toys available for them, half of which they either have no interest in or are too difficult.

Buying the right learning toy for your child means paying attention to their learning style.
